In an exciting announcement during the Capcom NEXT Summer 2024 stream, Capcom revealed that Resident Evil 9 is officially in the works. Fans of the iconic survival horror franchise are on the edge of their seats and eagerly awaiting more details about the upcoming installment.

Koshi Nakanishi, the director behind the critically acclaimed Resident Evil 7: Biohazard, will lead the development team for Resident Evil 9. While specifics remain are unknown, Nakanishi’s enthusiasm is palpable. He cryptically stated:

It feels substantial. I can’t share any details just yet, but I hope you’re excited for the day I can.

Resident Evil 9 has reportedly been in development since 2018 and will also have the longest development cycle and largest budget for a game in the series to date. According to published reports, Capcom will use the new RE Engine open world technology introduced in Dragon’s Dogma 2 in this game and is likely to have a structure similar to that game.

Also according to some rumors, Resident Evil 9 will be an open world game. This can end up harming the gameplay by spoiling the sense of survival horror and removing the challenge of resource management.

On the other hand, according to recent leaks, Resident Evil 9 has been delayed internally and will be released in late 2025 or early 2026. Capcom is also apparently working on remakes of Resident Evil Zero and Code Veronica.
