Ubisoft, After four years since the last main entry, has officially announced the latest installment in their popular Assassin’s Creed franchise, Assassin’s Creed Shadows. The game is set to launch on November 15, 2024, marking a new chapter in the series’ rich history.

For the first time, the franchise will take players to 16th century Japan, during the late-Sengoku period, also known as the Azuchi-Momoyama era. This era is known for its cultural advancements and political intrigue, providing a perfect backdrop for an Assassin’s Creed game.

Players will step into the roles of a Japanese shinobi, Naoe, and – in a series first – a real-life historical samurai, Yasuke. Both protagonists offer vastly different gameplay experiences, and overlapping perspectives on a transformative moment in Japanese history.

There are two interesting mechanics in this game. The first is creating a network of spies who will be your eyes and ears in different locations when searching for targets to hunt. You can also hire allies who have unique abilities and help you in missions. This mechanism seems to be somewhat similar to the Brotherhood system from Assassin’s Creed Brotherhood.

In an interview with IGN, it was also confirmed that the map of AC Shadows is smaller than the maps of the Odyssey and Valhala games and will be roughly the size of Egypt in Assassin’s Creed Origins. The Assassin’s Creed Mirage game was praised last year for returning to the roots of the series and offering a denser map. Players could reach 100% of the game in a shorter time without worry.

Pre-orders for Assassin’s Creed Shadows are now open and include the bonus quest “Thrown to the Dogs”. This bonus content provides an additional incentive for players to pre-order the game.

With its unique setting, compelling characters, and promise of innovative gameplay, Assassin’s Creed Shadows is set to be another exciting addition to the Assassin’s Creed franchise. The full gameplay reveal is scheduled for June 2024, further adding to the anticipation.

The game will be available on PS5, Xbox Series X|S, PC through the Ubisoft Store and the Epic Games Store, and as part of a Ubisoft+ Premium subscription.
